Junior Taster Day is Huge Success!

Sunday 8th May 2016 – Warfield Host 2nd Juniors Try-Cricket Taster Day!

In Spring 2015, Warfield CC launched their Juniors section, aiming to get children aged between 6 and 11 years old excited about cricket. We initially began the season with a Taster-Day where children from the local area could try their hand at cricket, but presented with an emphasis on fun and participation. The event proved hugely successful with children and parents, and set the platform for a very successful first season of junior cricket.

Building on the success of last year, we decided to rerun the taster day event again this year. In the build up to the event, the Club ran taster sessions for Brownie and Cub packs in the local area and contacted local schools to help spread the word! In addition to this, Berkshire Cricket also kindly distributed information leaflets to local schools on our behalf. The final part of the plan involved recruiting as many coaches and adult members in the club to lend a hand for the day as possible! Thankfully, we were inundated with willing volunteers!

The day started off bright and early with head coaches down at the ground for 08:30. With the compulsory tea/coffee out of the way, three Taster Day stations focusing on batting, fielding and games were set up around the ground. After a quick pep-talk, children began to arrive and soon the drills were under way. The children spent 20 minutes at each station before moving onto the next, with regular drinks breaks due to the lovely weather!

Since running the Try-Cricket Taster Day we have had more than 20 new junior cricketers sign up, meaning the event was a massive success!
