Saturday XI Seal Promotion!

After a fantastic season, the Warfield Saturday XI won promotion today with a superb nine wicket victory against West Reading!

Needing a win to secure promotion, Warfield got off to a great start with skipper Dan Torry winning the toss (a very rare sighting!). With Warfield bowling first, Ashley Gander rampaged through the West Reading top order in a ferocious spell! Ashley claimed 6 wickets for just 13 runs which included a ‘Worldie’ of a catch of his own bowling! At the other end, Tak Pswarayi was tying the batsmen up in knots, recording figures of 2-20. Riyas Rajab & Giri Ganesh claimed a wicket a-piece as West Reading were bowled out for 76!

With the rain closing in, Warfield had to knock off the runs quickly… Fortunately, Ashley continued his carnage with the bat, racking up 45* as Warfield reached the target in 12.2 overs for the loss of only one wicket!

With Twyford & Ruscombe’s match rained off, it meant that even with our huge victory we couldn’t overhaul them in the title race. However, it does mean we claim second place, meaning we are promoted to Division 2 of the Berkshire League next season! Well done to all of the team for their effort over the season!

Final Result:
West Reading: 76-10 (27.2 overs)
Warfield: 77-1 (12.2 overs)
Result: Warfield win by 9 wickets!
